Which Case Should You Use?

  • Sentence case — normal writing: articles, emails and essays. Only the first letter of each sentence is capital.
  • Title Case — headlines, article titles and book names, where every main word starts with a capital letter.
  • UPPERCASE — short labels, warnings and emphasis. Avoid it for full sentences; it reads like shouting.
  • lowercase — casual messages and usernames, or to clean up text that was typed in caps by accident.
  • aLtErNaTiNg case — just for fun, mostly used in playful social media posts.

Capitalization is one part of clean writing. Word choice is the other — see our guide to their vs there vs they're for another mistake this tool cannot fix for you.
